Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Criteria for patients with schizophrenia who use tobacco in dependence pattern
  • 1. Patients meeting the diagnostic criteria for Schizophrenia according to the International Classification of Disease 10 DCR; diagnosed for at least 2 years
  • 2. Patients meeting criteria for tobacco dependence syndrome
  • 3. Stable antipsychotic dose for last 3 months
  • 4. Patients willing to give informed consent in either English, Hindi or Kannada
  • 5. Patients between the ages of 18-60 years
  • Criteria for patients with schizophrenia who donâ??t use tobacco
  • 1. Patients meeting the diagnostic criteria for Schizophrenia according to the International Classification of Disease 10 DCR; diagnosed for at least 2 years
  • 2. Patients who have never used tobacco in dependence pattern and currently not using tobacco in any form
  • 3. Stable antipsychotic dose for last 3 months
  • 4. Patients willing to give informed consent in either English, Hindi or Kannada
  • 5. Patients between the ages 18-60 years

Exclusion Criteria

  • 1. Patients with comorbid neurological disorders (for example. Stroke, head injury, Parkinsonâ??s disease, or neurodegenerative disorders)
  • 2. Patients with uncontrolled medical comorbidities
  • 3. Other substance use in dependence pattern
