1.Age >/= 18 years
2.Patients with acute respiratory failure who already put on mechanical ventilation at least 24 hours and plan to continue respiratory support for more than 24 hours
1.Hemodynamic instability is defined as blood pressure < 90/60 mmHg, heart rate < 50/min or > 140/min
2.Tracheostomized pateints due to prolonged mechanical ventilation
3.Terminally ill patients
4.Diseased affected EEG interpretation: epilepsy, stroke within 9 months, hepatic encephalopathy, uremic encephalopathy
5.Receiving high dose sedative drugs and/or opioids
