Comparison of two methods of radiofrequency treatment in Idiopathic Trigeminal Neuralgia

Brief Summary

We are planning a study of independent subjects with trigeminal neuralgia, planned to be treated with CRF & PRF with equal number of subjects in both groups.

After getting approval from Ethical Committee, Dr.Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, UP, this prospective interventional study will be conducted in patients undergoing Radiofrequency treatment of Gasserian Ganglion.

Group C- CRF group Conventional radiofrequency lesioning- 3 fractions delivered-

(1) 60 degree C for 60 sec

(2) 65 degree C for 60 sec

(3) 70 degree C for 60 sec

• Group P- PRF group Pulsed radiofrequency lesioning will be done @ 50 V with pulse

delivered at every 20 msec for 10 mins with tip temperature of

equal or less than 42°C

primary trigeminal neuralgia non responsive to medical management.

Exclusion Criteria

refusal to give consent known coagulopathy secondary trigeminal neuralgia.
