Influence of ankle plantar flexor strength, functional mobility and fear of falling on plantar pressure distribution in diabetic older adults with and without peripheral neuropathy: A cross-sectional study

简要总结

This cross-sectional study will investigate the influence of ankle plantar flexor functional strength, functional mobility, and fear of falling on static plantar pressure distribution in diabetic older adults with and without diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Diabetic older adults aged 60 to 80 years will be included, and neuropathy status will be determined using the Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument. Participants will undergo assessments including the Calf-Raise Senior test, Timed Up and Go test, Falls Efficacy Scale-International, and static plantar pressure distribution using a portable plantar pressure distribution system. Associations among these variables will be analyzed to determine their contribution to plantar pressure abnormalities. Findings are expected to inform targeted physiotherapy interventions aimed at optimizing plantar loading and reducing diabetes-related foot complications.

入选标准

  • Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for more than or equal to 5 years.
  • HbA1c measured within the past 12 month.
  • Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument score for diabetes with DPN group: questionnaire score more than or equal to 4 and physical examination score more than or equal to 2; for diabetes without DPN group: questionnaire score less than 4 and physical examination score less than
  • Able to walk independently.

排除标准

  • Significant neurological conditions unrelated to diabetes.
  • Severe musculoskeletal impairment to lower limb that impact physical performance.
  • Severe cognitive impairment.
  • Use of medications affecting neuromuscular function.
  • Any episode of plantar ulceration.
  • Partial or total amputation.
  • Use of walking aids.
