Inclusion Criteria

•distinct dysmorphic symptoms, defined as sum score = 14 in the Body Dysmorphic Symptoms Inventory (Fragebogen Körperdysmorpher Symptome”, FKS; Buhlmann et al., 2009)

Exclusion Criteria

•Pre-diagnosed Schizophrenia, schizotypal or delusional disorders, Bipolar disorder, emotionally unstable personality disorder, substance use disorder
•Previous suicide attempts, current suicidality, or self-harming behavior
•Ongoing psychotherapy due to body dysmorphic symptoms: F45.22 Body dysmorphic disorder

Primary Outcome Measures

Part 1<br>-Acceptance for internet-based intervention (Unified Theory of Acceptance an Use of Technology; UTAUT; Baumeister et al., 2014).<br>-Observation of uptake (intervention started yes vs. no) and adherence (number of active training days).<br><br>Part 2<br>-State self-esteem in the domains appearance, performance and social (State Self-Esteem Scale; SSES; Heatherton et al., 1991).<br>-Severity of body dysmorphic symptoms (Fragebogen Körperdysmorpher Symptome”; FKS; Buhlmann et al., 2009). <br><br>The assessment of primary endpoints takes place at five different measurement time points (at baseline, after the laboratory experiment, at the beginning of the self-esteem intervention, after the first week of intervention, and at the end of the intervention). Self-esteem and severity of body dysmorphic symptoms are not assessed again after the laboratory experiment.<br><br>For further sample characterization, we conducted clinical diagnostic interviews (BDDDM, BDD-Y-BOCS).
