简要总结
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) represents a progressive spectrum of pathophysiological processes characterized by abnormal renal function and a gradual decline in glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Chronic renal failure, typically corresponding to CKD stages 3–5, reflects significant irreversible nephron loss, while end-stage renal disease (ESRD) denotes the critical stage where toxin, fluid, and electrolyte accumulation leads to uremic syndrome, necessitating renal replacement therapy such as dialysis or transplantation.
Identification of risk factors—including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, autoimmune disorders, advanced age, family history of renal disease, prior acute kidney injury, proteinuria, abnormal urinary sediment, and structural urinary tract abnormalities .
The major etiologies of CKD comprise diabetes mellitus (20–40%), interstitial kidney diseases (20–30%), glomerular diseases (10–20%), hypertension (5–20%), and systemic inflammatory diseases (5-10%),renal artery stenosis and congenital/inherited disorders such as polycystic kidney disease and Alport’s syndrome account for a minority (~5%) of cases, the rising prevalence in India reflects broader epidemiologic transition.
Diagnosis primarily relies on serum creatinine measurement, an indicator of reduced glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and impaired waste excretion.
Ayurvedic perspective
In Ayurveda, CKD does not correspond directly to any single named condition. According to Charaka Samhita Sutrasthana, not all diseases are named instead, Treatment is based on understanding the disease nature, site, and cause. CKD can be considered a disorder of the MutravahaSrotas (urinary channels), involving aggravation of Vata and Kapha doshas along with vitiation of multiple Dushyas (tissues), initially affecting Rasa, Rakta, Mutra, and Udaka, and later all Dhatus.
Mutravirechaniya Gana with Anuvasan and Niruha Basti in Ayurveda supports chronic kidney disease by promoting diuresis, reducing fluid retention, balancing Vata-Kapha, detoxifying metabolic wastes, nourishing renal tissues, and easing urinary inflammation, thereby aiding kidney function holistically alongside medical supervision.
Trinpanchamool Kashayam traditionally aids chronic kidney conditions by enhancing urine flow, reducing inflammation, flushing toxins, balancing Vata-Kapha doshas, and nourishing urinary tissues. Ayurveda views it as supportive, though modern nephrology emphasizes medical treatment; professional guidance remains essential for safe integration.
Vastyaamantaka Ghritapana, an Ayurvedic medicated ghee, is believed to reduce inflammation, balance doshas, improve renal circulation, support detoxification, and enhance tissue repair, potentially aiding chronic kidney disease management holistically.
