Inclusion Criteria

primigravid women aged over 17 years with a singleton fetus with a cephalic presentation at a gestational age of 37-42 weeks, and in the beginning of spontaneous labor, either intact membranes or spontaneous rupture of membranes for less than 12 hours, and no history of an underlying or pregnancy-related disease which is a contraindication for NVD

Exclusion Criteria

abnormal fetus presentation, previous uterine scars, prolonged rupture of membranes (>12hrs), twin or multiple pregnancy, presence of underlying diseases such as maternal diabetes and hypertension, augmentation of labor using oxytocin or the need for instrumental delivery
