Overview
Brief Summary
Introduction: Limitations in activities and social participation seem to influence task performance. Objective: The objective was to understand the perception of those responsible for the execution of activities and social participation of children with atypical motor development undergoing neurofunctional physiotherapeutic treatment. Method: Cross-sectional, observational study, using the Pediatric Disability Assessment Inventory (PEDI) and questionnaires measuring participation in the environment (YC-PEM and PEM-CY). Results: 23 guardians participated. In the assessment of functional skills, 9 children were considered to be delayed, as well as for self-care; 20 in mobility and 07 in social function. In caregiver assistance, developmental delay was noticed in 14 children in self-care, 17 for mobility and 15 for social function. When participating at home, the basic care routine was the most frequent and domestic chores were the least frequent. Two children attended preschool. In the community, children who receive little assistance from their caregivers are more involved in activities, and activities involving outings were attended by the majority. The correlation between the functional domains, self-care with mobility, self-care with social function and mobility with social function), was weak ( r = |0.10| ), moderate correlation ( r = |0.30| ) and strong correlation ( r = |0.50| ), respectively. Conclusion: The perception of incapacity suggests a delay in carrying out activities. Participation is varied, but school is not a participatory environment for the majority.
