Brief Summary

Effectiveness of technology based tools for continuous nursing education in a tertiary care hospital

Aim - to study the effectiveness of technology based tools for continuous nursing education in a tertiary care hospital

Objectives - 1. To study the perceptions and expectations of the nurses involved with regards to technology based tools for continuous nursing education

2. To create video classes out of the already existing continuous nursing education modules in the tertiary care hospital

3. To test the effectiveness of technology based tools for continuous nursing education compared to traditional classroom training

Firstly, I will be interviewing the nurses working in the intensive care units using a standardised questionnaire with regards to their perceptions and expectations of technology based tools on continuous nursing education ie how they perceive the use of training videos on web based or mobile applications for the use of training them for their continuous nursing education and what are their expectations from such training.

Secondly, with the help of the nursing educator in the tertiary care hospital, I will make videos based on the already existing teaching material. For the purpose of he study, I have selected the topic of blood transfusion to be made into a teaching video. The video will be filmed delivering the exact same content as the PowerPoint which is used for traditional classroom training, which will be delivered by the nursing educator herself.

Thirdly, I will form two groups using random number tables - a control group and a test group.

The control group will receive the traditional classroom training and the test group will receive the videos on their mobiles, which they will be strictly instructed to view only outside duty hours.

Both groups will answer the same pre and post intervention questionnaire and a comparison will be made.
