Operational definition of SAM: 6 months to 5 years children whose weight for height less than ? 3SD or MUAC 11.5 cm. WHO Anthro 2011 v 3.2.2. will be used to determine the weight for height Z scores.
Inclusion Criteria: Uncomplicated SAM- SAM child with all of the following namely good appetite, is alert and clinically well. Child has to be resident of the area for at least 6 months.
Complicated SAM- SAM with any one of the following namely anorexia, not alert, high fever (104 F), severe pallor, severe dehydration, Lower Respiratory Tract Infection (LRTI), bipedal edema, visible severe wasting

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Percentage of children gaining 15% of the baseline weight for heightTimepoint: The child will stop receiving RUTF once he/she attains the primary outcome. The time point is minimum 4 weeks and maximum 12 weeks. Even if the child attains the primary outcome before 12 weeks, weekly anthropometry would continue till 12 weeks from initiation of RUTF. If the child does not attain the primary outcome by 12 weeks (treatment failure), hell be referred to Advanced Paediatric Centre, PGIMER for further management
