- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Diffusion of essential oils in the dental waiting room will reduce patients self-reported acute anxiety compared with plain water vapor (all four fragrance oils vs. control group).
The main target parameter is the state anxiety of the patients, which is measured with the STAI (State-Trait-Anxiety Inventory (Laux et al., 1981)).
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Secondary Outcomes:
(1) The anxiety-reducing effect of the essential oil blends used (Gute Laune and Waldspaziergang) is greater than that of the corresponding single oils used (Orange and Stone Pine); (2) Between the two essential oil blends, the scent Waldspaziergang shows the greatest effect; (3) The evaporation of the essential oils leads to a lower subjective pain perception of the patients.
