1.outpatients with a pulmonary embolism, confirmed by locally approved guidelines
2.patients aged 18 years and above
3.written informed consent
1.hemodynamic or respiratory instability, defined as one of the following symptoms: collapse, hypotension (RR systolic< 90 mm Hg), need for oxygen therapy to maintain oxygen saturation greater than 90%
2.illness unrelated to PE for which the patient would require hospitalization for more than 24 hours (such as COPD, heart failure, active cancer)
3.pain requiring intravenous narcotics
4.thrombolysis
5.active bleeding or thrombopathy
6.pregnancy
7.in-hospital patients
8.physical or psychiatric inability for home treatment (poor compliance)
9.no support system at home
10.renal insufficiency
