Inclusion Criteria

In this study, healthy recreational runners between the ages of 18 – 35 years old will be recruited. Healthy will be classified as a BMI<30. This will be defined when measuring body composition via bio electrical impedance. Recreational runners will be classified as between 2-5hr of running per week.

Exclusion Criteria

Participants will be excluded if they have had any previous history of a muscle disorder, cardiac or kidney disease or medication (anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics and supplements). All participants will complete a questionnaire about their medical history and training status.

Primary Outcome Measures
NameTimeMethod
The primary outcome of this study is to investigate the effect of exercise intensity on measurements of Tryptophan and Kynurenine.
Secondary Outcome Measures
NameTimeMethod
The secondary outcome of this study is to investigate the time course changes in Tryptophan and Kynureine one hour post exercise, as well as further pathway metabolites (kynurenic acid, quinolinic acid) and enzyme expression (IDO1, KAT4, KMO) measured in PBMCs.
