Brief Summary

Addictive disorders are among the most common disorders worldwide and are associated with considerable healthcare and societal costs. Healthcare providers from a range of disciplines encounter patients with substance use disorders. Prevention of substance use and addictive disorders among children has been identified as an effective public health approach. Children and adolescents require a special ficus form the prevention perspective in context of substance sue and addictive disorders. Late childhood and early adolescence is the usually age of experimentation with psychoactive substances. It is this experimentation that progresses to more frequent use and subsequently leads to emergence of hazardous use, harmful use and addictive disorders.  Students who are enrolled in academic institutions have also been found to be vulnerable to use of psychoactive substances. However, their enrolment in the academic institutions offer a unique opportunity to deliver preventive interventions targeted against use of psychoactive substances. Teachers have been found to be a key stakeholder in substance use prevention program for the students.

Teachers can be trained on the delivery of these preventive interventions and they can subsequently deliver the same to the students.

Online web-based applications offer a unique platform that can be utilised to enhance the capacity on prevention of substance use and addictive disorders. The current project aims to develop a module on prevention of substance use and addiction among students for the teachers from the state of Chhattisgarh. The module shall be delivered as a combination of online and on-site training for the teachers. These teachers shall then serve as trainers for the rest of the teachers in the state of state of Chhattisgarh.
