- Brief Summary
This study investigates whether mandala coloring affects life satisfaction and mental well-being in older adults. Data will be collected at the Hatice Hakkı Polat Nursing Home Elderly Care and Rehabilitation Center between September 15, 2025, and November 14, 2025. The full study will be completed in January 2026.
- Detailed Description
Participation in the study is voluntary. Any individual residing in a nursing home who volunteers to participate will be included in the study. The plan is to reach all elderly individuals with adequate physical and mental capabilities.
All individuals living in a nursing home who meet the criteria to participate in the study will be included in the experimental group. Due to the insufficient number of patients, the control group will consist of elderly individuals living outside the nursing home who share similar sociodemographic characteristics to the experimental group.
Data collection scales will be administered to both groups. Participants in the experimental group will be asked to color mandalas for eight weeks.
Patients in the control group will not receive any intervention. At the end of the eight weeks, the scales will be re-administered to elderly individuals in both groups.
The scales will be completed face-to-face. The data obtained will be processed using SPSS. The statistical analyst will not know which group is the experimental group and which is the control group.
The results will be compared between the two groups and before and after. It is planned to analyze the data using SPSS 26 program, and after examining the kurtosis and skewness values as a test of conformity to normal distribution in the analysis, if there is conformity, to use independent samples t-test in inter-group comparisons, to use Repeated measures ANOVA test to determine group-time interaction in intra-group comparisons, to use Mann Whitney U test in binary variables if there is no normal distribution, and to use Friedman test in intra-group comparisons.

Name Time Method Life satisfaction scale 8 weeks The possible score on the scale ranges from 5 to 25. In the reference article, the consistency coefficient for the entire scale was calculated as r = 0.88. A higher score indicates higher life satisfaction.
Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-Being Scale 8 weeks The scale consists of 14 items and addresses individuals' positive mental health by encompassing both psychological and subjective well-being. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was found to be 0.89 in the reference article. As the score increases, so does the level of mental well-being.
