Among the patients in the surgical intensive care unit who are receiving continuous intravenous infusion of norepinephrine, adult patients (19 years of age or older) who require a arterial catheterization
– When a new arterial catheterization is needed (ex. malfunction)
– If there is no severe hemodynamic instability among patients who newly require arterial catheterization
? Hypersensitivity or contraindication to nitroglycerin (glaucoma, increased intracranial pressure, intracranial hemorrhage, sildenafil or vardenafil)
? Hypersensitivity or contraindications to lidocaine
? History of puncture of the radial artery who are planning to attempt arterial catheterization within the last 24 hours
? Wounds, infections, or hematomas at the site where the arterial line is to be placed
? Peripheral vascular disease
? When it is impossible to collect research data on vascular placement due to hemodynamic instability (When norepinephrine requirement is 0.2 µg/kg/min or more)
? If the patient or surrogates refuses to proceed with the research

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Success rate of first attempt of radial artery catheterization
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method the diameter of radial artery;the depth of radial artery from skin;Duration between initiation of procedure to success of first attempt of arterial catheterization;Duration between initiation of procedure to success of second attempt of arterial catheterization;Success rate of second attempt of radial artery catheterization;Change in the diameter of radial artery (vasodilation) with nitroglycerin or normal saline subcutaneous injection according to continuous intravenous infusion dose of norepinephrine (µg/kg/min);the proportion of hematoma development after arterial catheterization;the proportion of vasospasm development after arterial catheterization;the proportion of distal ischemia development after arterial catheterization;the proportion of hypotension development after arterial catheterization
