Inclusion Criteria

•Adult patients > 18years
•Hospital admission
•Respiratory failure as defined by at least one of
-SpO2* < 90 % without oxygen or
-Need for oxygen supplementation*

Exclusion Criteria

•Long term oxygen therapy (LTOT)
•SpO2* > 96 % with oxygen therapy
•Invasive mechanical ventilation
•Lack of informed consent
