Inclusion Criteria

Adolescents from public state schools; Age between 12-18 years, presence of three vital teeth, either decayed or with unsatisfactory restorations (Black Class I or II cavities); the presence of occlusal and proximal contacts; good general health; and no contraindication to dental treatment.

Exclusion Criteria

Advanced periodontal disease, non-carious cervical lesions in the teeth selected for the study, posterior teeth with pulpal alterations, teeth endodontically treated, or pulp exposure during the removal of carious tissue, teeth with a history of pain. Smokers and individuals with potential behavioral problems that would not cooperate during interventions were also excluded from the study.

Primary Outcome Measures

Annual failures rate of the performed restorations, evaluated under the modified USPHS (United States Public Health Service) and FDI (World Dental Federation) criteria, under visual evaluation with direct artificial light, exploratory probe and radiographic examination in all evaluation periodos (6, 12 and 18 months).
