Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • Adult patients (aged between 18 and 75y) of American Society of Anaesthesiologists physical status I or II, of either sex undergoing emergency laparotomy under general anaesthesia requiring arterial cannulation for intraoperative management will be recruited in this study.

Exclusion Criteria

  • 1.Patients or relativeâ??s refusal to participate in the study
  • 2.Patients undergoing elective laparotomy
  • 3.Known COPD or other chronic lung diseases
  • 4.Known deformity of chest wall or thoracic spine
  • 5.Pre-existing significant cardiac, renal and hepatic diseases
  • 6.Intraoperative massive blood loss or massive transfusion
  • 7.Patients who are on high dose of vasopressor (defined as noradrenalin > 10mcg/m)
