Adult patients (aged between 18 and 75y) of American Society of Anaesthesiologists physical status I or II, of either sex undergoing emergency laparotomy under general anaesthesia requiring arterial cannulation for intraoperative management will be recruited in this study.
1.Patients or relativeâ??s refusal to participate in the study
2.Patients undergoing elective laparotomy
3.Known COPD or other chronic lung diseases
4.Known deformity of chest wall or thoracic spine
5.Pre-existing significant cardiac, renal and hepatic diseases
6.Intraoperative massive blood loss or massive transfusion
7.Patients who are on high dose of vasopressor (defined as noradrenalin > 10mcg/m)
