Brief Summary

The patients who had anxiety at 30 minutes before the operation and were given midazolam constituted Group I; those who were given a tablet computer constituted Group II. The patients’ anxiety levels in the waiting room at 30 minutes after taking oral midazolam or tablet computer were compared; the anxiety level in Group I was found to be significantly lower than that in Group II. The patients’ separation anxiety level while parting with families to go to the operating room was found to be significantly lower in Group I compared to Group II. The patients in Group I were found to accept anesthesia mask more easily than those in Group II. The patients who did not have anxiety at 30 minutes before the operation and were given midazolam constituted Group III; those who were given a tablet computer constituted Group IV. The patients in Group IV were found to have significantly higher anxiety levels in the waiting room compared to Group III. The patients in Group IV were found to have significantly higher separation anxiety while parting with families compared to Group III. The patients in Group IV were found to accept anesthesia mask more readily than those in Group III. The patients in Group III were found to take significantly longer to emerge from anesthesia compared to those in Group IV. Both Groups III and IV were found to have no negative behavioral changes at one-week after patients’ discharge.
