- Brief Summary
A sample of 75 subjects will be selected from the OPD ofUnit of Prosthodontic ,Faculty of Dental Sciences, IMS,BHU according toinclusion and exclusion criterion. The subjects will be further divided into 3groups-25 subjects in Group 1 (normal fully dentate subjects) acting as Controlgroup,50 subjects in the Study Group i.e.,25 in Group 2 (subjects havingattrition with altered vertical dimension of occlusion) and 25 in Group 3(subjects having attrition with unaltered vertical dimension ofocclusion). After taking proper case history. Patients will be evaluatedclinically and radiographically .The patients will be explained and informedregarding the nature of the study and their participation will be includedafter they have signed the informed consent.
The vertical dimension of occlusion of each subjects will beassessed. Each subject will be categorized according to the Turner andMissirlian classification 1984.Occlusal biting force of each subjects will beassessed by using the 2D/3D device (Occlusense by Bausch) in static occlusioncorresponding to the maximum intercuspation (MIP) in clinical condition .Forceswill be recorded for all 4 quadrants . A comparison will be made among theControl Group and the two Study Groups.A final conclusion if whether themagnitude of occlusal forces in the 2 Study Groups is close to that of theControl group will be established towards the end of the study.
