Participants met the inclusion criteria determined by means of anamnesis, clinical, and radiographic examinations. Included patients comprised those in good systemic and general health condition, between 16 and 35 years of age, and those with an indication of lower third molar (#38 or 48) removal, with at least 2/3 of the root formed, according to the radiographic evaluation (Class I or II; Position A/B from Pell & Gregory, 1942).
Participant exclusion criteria was also obtained by means of anamnesis, clinical, and radiographic examinations 6- 8- 9- 11- 14- 23- 24; they included all the opposite questions regarding the inclusion criteria plus the individuals who used any drug in the 30 days prior to the surgical procedure, and female patients during menstrual, gestational, or lactation periods.
