Inclusion Criteria
presence of mandibular third molars on both sides in retained or impacted form
- complete root growth of the second lower molars
- periodontal screening index =2
- written informed consent from the adolescent or adult patient or legal guardian
Exclusion Criteria
- one of the points mentioned under the inclusion criteria” does not apply
- systemic diseases that can affect wound healing after oral surgery (e.g. diabetes mellitus)
- nicotine consumption >10 cigarettes per day
- pregnancy

Name Time Method Attachment level change from pre- to 6 months postoperatively (measurement with a rigid, millimeter-scaled periodontal probe at 6 sites/tooth from the cemento-enamel junction to the bottom of the respective pocket)
