Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- •children with congenital bilateral deafness (or near\-to\-deaf hearing impairment),
- •\- no progressive course of hearing impairment,
- •\- age at treatment with CI \= 48 months (or at the time of 1st adjustment CA \= 48 months),
- •\- at time of test, fitted with bilateral CI,
- •\- all children with CI are registered at an ACIR center and participate in a rehabilitation program
- •\- Interval between the two CI implantations \= 12 months
- •\- clinically unremarkable nonverbal development
- •\- adequate communication ability (in German), to perform speech testing
Exclusion Criteria
- •\-progressive course of hearing impairment
- •\-cognitive impairments
- •\-children with multiple disabilities
- •\-Interval of CI fitting greater than 12 months with bilateral fitting
- •\-insufficient knowledge of German
