50 male patients diagnosed with alcoholic liver disease will be recruited randomly for the study over a period of 1 year. Diagnosis, medical history, relevant clinical findings and liver function tests will be obtained from the clinical case files. Alcohol consumption related data will be obtained by using AUDIT which is a screening questionnaire for detailed alcohol use history. Controls include thirty age-matched normal, apparently healthy males. CAGE questionnaire will be administered to volunteers to exclude those with problem drinking.
I.Patients younger than 30 yrs and older than 80 yrs
II.Patients with renal disease, smokers, tobacco chewers, on exogenous steroid or suffering from any other systemic illness (infections, malignancies, respiratory diseases) will be excluded.
