Effectiveness of local anesthesia with added magnesium sulphate for lower wisdom teeth extraction
- Conditions
- Bilateral impacted mandibular third molars
- Registration Number
- CTRI/2018/05/013842
- Lead Sponsor
- Dr Srikanth G
- Brief Summary
To assess the effect of combination of lignocaine (1:200000) and magnesium sulphate on
- 1) Duration of action
- 2) Pain perception
- 3) Burning sensation on injection
Several additives have been combined with local anaesthetics to improve block quality and post-operative analgesia. Magnesium sulphate is one potential additive. Based on previous clinical trials, magnesium sulphate has promising results and has been known to increase the duration of blocks. This additive, if successful can also decrease the number of injections required to achieve clinical levels of local anesthesia.
Patients with mandibular impacted third molars requiring trans-alveolar extraction on both right and left side (bilateral extraction). The left side of the patient will be considered as the control site where only lignocaine (1,200,000) will be injected whereas the right side will act as the test side where lignocaine(1:200,000) with magnesium sulphate will be injected.
