Management of Sciatica through Ayurveda

- Brief Summary
This study is a randomized, open label, parallel group, single centre comparative clinical study. This study will be conducted in the National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. The null hypothesis is there is no difference between the efficacy of *Viddha Karma* and *Katipichu* with *Kubjaprasarani Taila* in the management of *Gridhrasi* with special reference to Sciatica. The primary outcome measures reduction in *Ruka* (Pain), *Toda* (Pricking pain), *Stamba* ( Stiffness), *Spandana* (Twitching), *Gaurawa* (Heaviness) and *Arochaka* (Anoroxia). Secondary outcome is improvement of 100 meters test, straight leg raising test and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). The *Viddha Karma* will be done on day 1, day 7 and day 14 and *Kubjaprasarani Taila pichu* will be done on 250ml once a daily for 14 days.

- 1Patients in the age group of 20 to 65 years of either sex.
- 2Patients having sign and symptoms of Stambha(Stiffness), Ruk (Pain), Toda( Pricking sensation), Spandana(twitching) , starting from Sphikpurva –Kati-Janu-Jangha to Pada.( Radiatng pain,starting from the gluteal region towards the foot), (Heaviness) and Arochaka (anorexia) 3Tenderness of the sciatic nerve course 4Severe pain on squatting 5Sensory change 6Non-involvement of urinary bladder and rectum 7Positive straight leg raising test.
- 1Age below 20 years and above 65 years 2Chronicity more than ten years 3Monoplegia, Paraplegia.
- 4AVN of Hip joint, T.B. Hip/ Spine.
- 5Pelvic pathology.
- 6Traumatic lesion in Lumbo-sacral region.
- 8Patient receiving any kind of anticoagulants/ blood thinners.
