简要总结

Title: Efficacy of magnesium in treatment ofpatients with myofascial trigger points in upper trapezius

Introduction: MyofascialTrigger point (MTrP) has been defined as a highly localized and hyperirritablespot in a palpable taut band of skeletal muscle fibres. Treatment of Myofascial trigger points oftenrequires a multidisciplinary approach. Steam- causes vasodilation, thisallows more blood, oxygen and nutrients to be delivered to the affected partand accelerated removal of wastes.  Ischemic compressions- causesresurgence of local blood flow upon sudden release of digital pressure, mostprobably from the spinal reflex mechanism, causes increase in pain pressurethreshold. The demand for Mg is likely to increase during accelerated metabolicsituations, thus, physically active individuals may have higher Mg requirementsin order to maintain optimal exercise performance as compared with theirinactive peers.

Aim: Comparison of effects ofmagnesium with conventional physiotherapy in patients with myofascial triggerpoints in upper trapezius.

Objectives:

To assess the effect of conventional therapy in myofascial triggerpoints in upper trapezius with respect to pain through VAS, range of motionusing goniometer, pressure pain threshold using pain algometer and functionalstatus using Neck Disability Index (NDI).

Comparison of magnesium and conventional therapy in myofascial triggerpoints in upper trapezius with respect to pain through VAS, range of motionusing goniometer, pressure pain threshold using pressure pain algometer andfunctional status using Neck Disability Index (NDI).

InclusionCriteria: Subjects with active myofascial trigger points in uppertrapezius. Both male and female. Age group: 18-40 years

Exclusion Criteria: (1) clinicalevidence of cervical radiculopathy or myelopathy; (2) history of disc disease, degenerative joint disease, fracture, or dislocation of the cervical vertebrae;(3) cognitive deficits or psychiatric illness; (4) history of knownhypersensitivity to magnesium were also excluded.

Outcome measures:

VAS (VisualAnalogue Scale).

ROM (Range ofMotion).

NeckDisability Index (NDI).

Pressure painthreshold.
