简要总结

Bronchial asthma is a chronic respiratory disorder characterized by airway inflammation, airway hyper-responsiveness, and reversible airway obstruction. It is a growing global health problem affecting millions of people and significantly impacting the quality of life of patients. According to the World Health Organization, asthma is often underdiagnosed and undertreated, especially in low- and middle-income countries, leading to complications such as sleep disturbance, fatigue, poor concentration, and in severe cases hospitalization or death.

In India, homoeopathy is widely used as a complementary and alternative system of medicine. Homoeopathic treatment focuses on individualization and the principle of symptom similarity for remedy selection. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homoeopathy, emphasized the importance of totality of symptoms for selecting the most suitable medicine. Clemens Maria Franz von Boenninghausen developed the Boenninghausen’s Therapeutic Pocket Book, an important repertory that assists physicians in selecting the similimum by analyzing location, sensation, modalities, and concomitant symptoms.

The present study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of individualized homoeopathic medicines selected through Boenninghausen’s Therapeutic Pocket Book in patients suffering from bronchial asthma. The effectiveness will be measured using the Asthma Control Test (ACT), by comparing ACT scores before and after treatment.

A pre-post interventional clinical study will be conducted at the National Institute of Homoeopathy, where patients attending the outpatient department with bronchial asthma will be enrolled. A total of 40 participants aged 18 to 60 years with ACT score  equal or less than 19 will be included in the study. Individualized homoeopathic medicines will be prescribed after proper case taking and repertorization using Boenninghausen’s Therapeutic Pocket Book. Patients will be followed up every 15 days for three months, and ACT scores will be assessed at baseline and monthly intervals.

The collected data will be analyzed using appropriate statistical methods such as paired t-test or Wilcoxon signed-rank test depending on the distribution of data. The study also aims to identify the most frequently prescribed homoeopathic medicines and evaluate their clinical indications in bronchial asthma management.

This research intends to contribute to the scientific evaluation of homoeopathic treatment in asthma and explore the usefulness of Boenninghausen’s repertory as a clinical tool in selecting effective individualized remedies.
