Inclusion Criteria
Patients with chronically elevated long-term blood glucose levels, diabetes mellitus type 2 HbA1c = 8 %, periodontitis stage I-IV
Exclusion Criteria
Patients requiring acute treatment (e.g. periodontal abscess) or undergoing active dental treatment (e.g. periodontal therapy), smokers, severe general diseases (tumor diseases, palliative therapies), cortisone therapy, antibiotic therapy up to 6 months before study participation, pregnancy, and breastfeeding.

Name Time Method Probing depths (ST) measured with a calibrated probe (Aeskulap, DB764R), clinical attachment level, recessions, bleeding on probing, degrees of looseness, oral hygiene indices (Sillness & Löw, Löe & Sillness), general physical findings (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, abdominal circumference), laboratory values (HbA1c, fasting blood glucose, creatinine, sodium, potassium, MDRD, GPT, GOT, GGT, triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, microalbumin), nutrition questionnaire (RKI DEGS questionnaire), questionnaire on oral health-related quality of life (OHIP-G 14). 1. measurement at the beginning of blood glucose control with medication, 2. measurement after 3 months
