This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the French Contrast Method (FCM) in enhancing key physical attributes—jump performance, reactive strength, agility, and fatigue rate—in district-level taekwondo athletes. Taekwondo is an intense, high-speed combat sport that demands rapid and explosive lower-body movements, making strength, power, and agility crucial for success. Traditional training methods often focus on either strength or plyometric drills separately, but FCM combines both in a structured manner to maximize performance through post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE).
Rationale for the Study The ability to generate high levels of force quickly is essential for executing powerful and rapid kicking techniques in taekwondo. Training methods that improve lower limb power and reactive strength can provide athletes with a competitive advantage. The FCM, which alternates between heavy resistance exercises and plyometrics in a single session, has been shown to enhance neuromuscular activation and improve athletic performance in other sports. However, its effects on taekwondo-specific movements remain underexplored. This study seeks to bridge this gap by assessing whether FCM can enhance jump performance, reactive strength, agility, and fatigue resistance in taekwondo athletes.
Importance of Potentiation in Sports Post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) is a phenomenon in which high-intensity conditioning exercises temporarily improve subsequent explosive movements. This occurs due to increased neural activation, muscle stiffness, and motor unit recruitment, leading to greater power output and movement efficiency. In sports like taekwondo, where rapid force production is critical, utilizing PAPE through FCM may significantly improve athletes’ kicking speed, agility, and endurance. Understanding how potentiation influences taekwondo performance can help coaches optimize training programs to enhance competition readiness.
Hypothesis of the Study The study is based on the following hypotheses:
- Experimental Hypothesis: The French Contrast Method will have a significant positive effect on jump performance, reactive strength, agility, and fatigue rate in taekwondo athletes.
- Null Hypothesis: The French Contrast Method will have no significant effect on jump performance, reactive strength, agility, and fatigue rate in taekwondo athletes.
Study Design A randomized controlled trial will be conducted with district-level taekwondo athletes, divided into two groups. The experimental group will follow an FCM-based training program, incorporating heavy compound movements, plyometric exercises, weighted jumps, and assisted plyometrics. The control group will follow a traditional taekwondo skill-based training program. Performance will be assessed using countermovement jump height, the reactive strength index, the taekwondo-specific agility test, and heart rate variability as a marker of fatigue.
By examining the impact of FCM on these key physical attributes, this study aims to provide evidence-based recommendations for improving taekwondo training strategies, ultimately helping athletes enhance their competitive performance.

- •Athletes in the age group between 18 to 25 years.
- •Athletes who are training at least 3 times a week.
- •With a training experience of at least 1 year.
- •Athletes who are practicing strength training at least 3 times a week.
- •Athletes without a history of injuries for the past three months.
排除标准
- •Athletes who have experienced cardiovascular or respiratory issues in the past.
- •Athletes experiencing frequent dislocations.
- •Athletes with musculoskeletal conditions of any kind.
- •Athletes with a medical history of surgery.
- •Athletes with any kind of neurological condition experiencing balance issues.
