简要总结
Primigravida mothers often face numerous challenges during the transition to motherhood, including anxiety, stress, and uncertainty due to their lack of experience in newborn care. These challenges, if not addressed, can negatively impact both maternal confidence and neonatal outcomes. Empowering first-time mothers with appropriate parenting knowledge, attitude, and skills is essential for improving maternal preparedness and ensuring the health and well-being of the newborn. The present study aims to assess the effectiveness of a Parenting Skill Empowerment Program (PSEP) on knowledge, attitude, and expressed practice among primigravida mothers attending the Obstetrics and Gynecology OPD of a tertiary care hospital in Andhra Pradesh. A quantitative quasi-experimental one group pre-test post-test design will be adopted, involving 60 primigravida mothers selected through convenience sampling. The intervention will include structured educational sessions focusing on essential newborn care practices such as breastfeeding, bathing, immunization, cord care, positioning, burping, and identification of warning signs. Data will be collected using self-structured tools and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics to assess the effectiveness of the intervention and the association of demographic variables with the outcomes. The conceptual framework of the study is based on Pender’s Health Promotion Model, emphasizing empowerment, self-efficacy, and behavior change. The study is expected to show significant improvement in the knowledge, attitude, and practices of primigravida mothers post-intervention. Findings may help in promoting parenting education as a part of routine antenatal care, particularly in tertiary care settings, and may contribute to the reduction of maternal and neonatal complications. This study highlights the importance of culturally relevant, empowerment-focused programs in strengthening maternal and child health strategies in Andhra Pradesh.
