Effect of circular taping with traction versus conventional physiotherapy on radiological changes in knee Osteoarthritis: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Aim of the study: To determine and compare the effect of circular taping with traction versus conventional physiotherapy in terms of radiological changes in knee Osteoarthritis.

Null hypothesis: There will be no difference in the effect of circular taping, traction and conventional physiotherapy in terms of radiological changes, pain, Range of motion in OA knee.

Alternate hypothesis:  There will be difference in the effect of circular taping, traction and conventional physiotherapy in terms of radiological changes, pain, Range of motion in OA knee.

Inclusion Criteria: 1. Participants between the age of 45 years to 70 years of both gender, 2. Participants have to meet the clinical criteria of diagnosis of OA of the knee according to the criteria after American College of Rheumatology, 3. Participants diagnosed with grade 2 and grade 3 on the Xray according to the kellgren and lawrence classification

Exclusion Criteria: 1. Participants diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteoporosis, 2. Participants with Anterior knee pain, Patellofemoral pain syndrome, 3. Previous surgeries of the lower limb, 4. Participants with fracture in and around the knee, 5. Lower limb deformities, 6. Open wounds or skin diseases

A written consent form will be obtained from the participants. Demographic data will be obtained from the participants, outcome measures will be measured before the intervention and after completion of the intervention. A total of 30 participants will be recruited. Participants will be divided into two groups, Group A (n=15), Group B(n=15).

Group A will receive Conventional physiotherapy which includes, Electrotherapeutic modality, hip and knee flexion, short arc quadriceps, straight leg raise, long arc quadriceps. All exercises will be performed for 5 repetitions for 1 set.

Group B will receive conventional physiotherapy, electrotherapeutic modality, Intermittent mechanical traction at the knee with 30 seconds of hold followed by 10 seconds of rest for 6 mins and medial rotational glide in non-weight bearing with circular rigid taping.
