Inclusion Criteria

INCLUSION CRITERIA

A. For T1DM Group

1. Patients diagnosed with T1DM at least 1 year before the time of periodontal

status assessment

2. Patients above the age of 12.

3. Minimum of 20 teeth present

B. For Control Group

1. Individuals above the age of 12.

2. Non diabetic systemically healthy individuals who are willing to sign informed

consent

3. Minimum of 20 teeth present

Exclusion Criteria

EXCLUSION CRITERIA

A. For T1DM Group

1. Patients with other systemic diseases which may affect the periodontal status

(Osteoporosis , Rheumatoid Arthritis etc),

2. pregnant and lactating mothers

3. Patients taking medications which may affect the periodontal status (Nifedipine,

Cyclosporine, Phenytoin etc)

4. Patients with acute condition that contraindicate a periodontal examination.

5. Patients who received periodontal therapy past 1 year.

6. Patients not willing to sign informed consent

B. For Control Group

1. Individuals who received systemic antibiotic therapy within past 6 month and

periodontal therapy past 1 year.

2. Pregnancy

3. Lactating mothers
