Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- •1\) one missing or failing tooth being an incisor, canine or first premolar in the maxilla with
- •neighbouring natural teeth;
- •2\) presence of a defect of the buccal bone wall as noticed immediately after tooth extraction (not applicable for cases with a missing tooth);
- •3\) at least 18 year of age;
- •4\) ASA score \= 2 (Smeets et al. 1998\);
- •5\) adequate oral hygiene, i.e. Plaque Index Score (Silness and Lo?, 1964\) and Gingival Index
- •Score (Silness and Lo?, 1964\) \= 1;
- •6\) mesial\-distal width of diastema at least 6 mm;
- •7\) patient is capable of understanding and giving informed consent
Exclusion Criteria
- •1\) smoking;
- •2\) a history of radiotherapy to the head and neck region;
- •3\) use of intravenous bisphosphonates shorter than 10 years ago.
