cardiovascular or transplant surgery patients who have a high anticipated risk of staying in the ICU >48 hours postoperatively

inclusion in interventional trial, failure to obtain patient consent

Name Time Method Changes in vitamin D levels between the preoperative measurement (induction of anaesthesia) and day two of intensive care stay
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Changes in vitamin D status between the preoperative measurement (induction of anaesthesia) and the other time points in the study (intraoperative, postoperative ICU stay day 1, 3 - 7).<br>Vitamin D levels at the defined time points (preoperative, intraoperative, postoperative ICU stay day 1 - 7).<br>Conformance of the ECLIA assay and LC-MS as well as quantification of the C3 epimer in a subset of frozen samples. <br>Hospital mortality adjusted for vitamin D status and relevant cofactors (age, gender, race, renal function, markers of inflammation).
