Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- •Participants in this study are adults aged 60 and older who have been identified with prehypertension, prediabetes and MetS after completing health examinations at one of 15 regional branch medical facilities of the Korea Association of Health Promotion in Korea between June 1, 2008 and April 30,2009\.
- •1\. Prehypertension is defined by a systolic blood pressure between 120 and 139 mmHg or diastolic BP between 80 and 89 mmHg
- •2\. Prediabetes is defined as a fasting plasma blood glucose in the 100\-125 mg/dL range(impaired fasting glucose)
- •3\. MetS is defined by the NCEP ATP III criteria for MetS with the Asia\-Pacific standard for abdominal obesity. That is, older adults who meet 3 or more of the following five conditions are classified as having MetS: (1\) waist circumference \>90cm for men or \>80cm for women; (2\) HDL cholesterol \<40mg/dL for men or \<50mg/dL for women; (3\) triglyceride \=150mg/dL; (4\) systolic blood pressure \=130mmHg and diastolic blood pressure \=85mmHg; and (5\) fasting glucose \=100mg/dL.
Exclusion Criteria
- •Exclusion criteria for the study are: being on medication for weight control; having been diagnosed with diabetes or hypertension; being on treatment for MetS;and not providing signed consent form for participation in the study.
