1. Age range: 18-60 years, 2. Presentation of neck or shoulder pain lasting more than 72 hours, consistent with the diagnosis of myofascial pain syndrome, 3. Palpable painful point within the upper trapezius muscle, and 4. Pain score assessed by a visual analogue scale exceeding 40 mm.
1. History of other disorders in the neck and shoulder regions, 2. History of systemic disease, 3. Having contraindications for dry needling, and 4. Received dry needling treatment within the previous month.

Name Time Method Subjective pain at 1 and 2 weeks after dry needling Visual Analogue Scale assessed by a straight line with one end meaning no pain and the other end meaning the worst pain imaginable (0-100 mm)
