Brief Summary

Among the various methods used to alleviate paincaused by needle penetration, Topical anesthetics stand apart as the goldstandard method. PEPPERMINT (Mentha piperita) is a popular herb thatcan be used in numerous forms (ie, oil, leaf, leaf extract, and leaf water). It is a colourless orpale-yellow liquid with a fresh sharp menthol odour, whenapplied to the skin, it causes a cooling sensation. The anesthetic property of Peppermint oil remainsunexplored, even though they have been widely used for various ailments.Peppermint oil has a variety of therapeutic properties such as analgesic,anesthetic and antiseptic etc. When used in mouthwashes, toothpastes, andtopical applications. 

AIM: To compare and evaluate the pain perception following topicalapplication of a peppermint oil and lignocaine spray prior to intra oralinjection in children aged 8-13 years.



OBJECTIVES:

·        To evaluate the topicalanesthetic effect of peppermint oil during intra oral injection in children

·        To evaluate the topicalanesthetic effect of lignocaine spray during intra oral injection in children

·        To compare the effectiveness oftopical anesthetic effects of peppermint oil and Lignocaine spray during intra oralinjection in children

Inclusion Criteria

1.Healthy Children aged 8-13 years who attending dental hospital 2.Children indicated for dental procedures under local anesthesia.

Exclusion Criteria
  • 1.Children with Acute infections or Systemic diseases 2.
  • Children with special care needs 3.
  • Children with dental emergency which include trauma, acute pulpitis, dental abscess, cysts, pericoronitis etc.
