Prevalence and risk factors of cognitive impairment in chronic kidney disease patients

Cognitive impairment  has been reported from early stage chronic kidney disease patients. Prevalence of cognitive impairment in chronic kidney disease patients is 20% to 50% and up to 70 % in older patients on dialysis In everyday practice cognitive impairment in chronic kidney disease patients is still underdiagnosed, underreported and undertreated. This research project aims to address these issues. Patients will be included in the study as per inclusion criteria. MoCA test will be administered  for each patient and a score of 26 and above will be considered normal and any score below 26 will be considered as cognitive impairment. Total score of  18-25 will be considered as mild cognitive impairment, 10-17 as  moderate cognitive impairment and less than 10 as severe cognitive impairment. Variables included in the study age, gender, marital status, years of schooling schooling, alcohol use ,smoking, presence of comorbidities including hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism and cardiovascular disease. These variables will be analysed as possible risk factors for development of cognitive impairment
