The two hyperventilation protocols provide similar seizure quality and side-effect profiles. However, hyperventilation with EtCO2 monitoring significantly reduced the change in heart rate following electrical stimulation.

入选标准

•Diagnosis of major depressive disorder (MDD), bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or treatment resistant dementia with BPSD
•Indicated for receiving ECT at Siriraj Hospital
•No change in ECT parameters and medications for at least 2 sessions of ECT prior to the study

排除标准

•Severe or unstable cardiovascular disease e.g., recent myocardial infarction, unstable angina, poorly compensated congestive heart failure, severe valvular cardiac disease, or have an episode of these conditions within 1 month
•Aneurysm or vascular malformation
•Have signs of increase intracranial pressure or have brain tumor or space-occupying cerebral lesions
•Recent cerebral infarction/hemorrhage within 1 month
•Pulmonary condition e.g., COPD/asthma with acute exacerbation, pneumonia within 1 month
•American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) class 4 or 5
•Pregnancy
