(1) diagnosis of stroke within 6 months post-onset
(2) oropharyngeal dysphagia confirmed by a videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS)
(3) ability to follow study instructions
(4) ability to swallow voluntarily
(5) absence of any cognitive deficits (classified as a Mini Mental State Examination score > 20 points)
(1) secondary stroke
(2) neck pain or discomfort
(3) presence of other neurologic diseases
(4) presence of a tracheostomy tube
(5) problems with the esophageal phase of dysphagia (e.g. achalasia or upper esophageal sphincter opening) confirmed on a VFSS.
