- Patients who are found to have an aortic aneurym larger than 6 cm diameter and who elect to undergo elective open surgical ( as opposed to radiological endovascular stenting) repair of the aneurysm.

- Aged between 18 and 75 years

- Patients who have diabetes mellitus.
- Patients with an active proven bacterial or viral infection.
- Pre-existing cortico-steroid therapy.
- Systemic fungal infection.
- Acute renal failure or renal replacement therapy.
- Patients who are pregnant or lactating will be excluded.
