- Brief Summary
Based on published guidelines and indicators, 47 candidate indicators were compiled. Another four candidate indicators were derived from the focus groups' discussion of quality objectives. An independent, multiprofessional expert panel consented a preliminary set of 25 indicators, three of which were excluded due to lack of feasibility and discriminatory power after analysis in ta field test with 346 patients and 35 GPs. Furthermore, we developed two core sets of indicators that, depending on the availability of data, can be used to measure the quality of care through data provided by the treating physicians or the patients. In the MULTIqual project, an indicator set for the care of older people with multimorbidity with good measurement properties was developed for use in the research context and in the primary care setting. Based on the performance in surveyed practices, evidence can be obtained on the current status of care for this patient group in Germany and areas with potential for improvement. In addition, the quality indicators can strengthen primary care in multimorbidity and establish standards of care for this group of patients.
