Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- •1\.Age \> 18 years
- •2\.48 hours to 96 hours post extubation after prolonged intubation
- •3\.All tracheostomized patients who are already on oral feeds or in whom initiation of oral feeds is planned
- •4\.Conscious and able to follow verbal commands \[GCS at least E4 VT M6 (10T)]
- •5\. Hemodynamically stable patients
Exclusion Criteria
- •1\. Presence of pre\-existing dysphagia
- •2\. Severe agitation and possible inability to
- •cooperate with the examination
- •3\. Bilateral obstruction of the nasal passages
- •4\.Pre\-existing neurological conditions, such as
- •stroke and neuromuscular disease like myasthenia gravis, Lambert\-Eaton myasthenic syndrome \[LEMS]
- •5\. Conditions affecting anatomic structures of the swallowing tract
- •6\.History of recent trauma to the nasal cavity or surrounding tissue
- •7\. Recent MI \< 1month
- •8\. Pre\-existing congestive heart failure
