? Patients aged 19 years or older admitted to an intensive care unit
? If a specialist diagnoses the acute respiratory failure
? Patients who received invasive mechanical ventilation for more than 24 hours
? Pregnant women
? A condition in which respiratory muscle training is impossible due to neuropathy or congenital muscle disease
? Brain death
? Patients with severe traumatic brain injury
? Patients with brain lesions (infarction and hemorrhage in the brain stem) that can affect breathing capacity
? Patients with a history of epilepsy/seizures
? Patients with intracranial metal implants (coils, clips, etc.)
? Patients with implanted cardiac pacemakers
? Patients who did not consent to this study
? If a neurologist or psychiatrist has diagnosed cognitive dysfunction
? If the diaphragm is dysfunctional due to diaphragmatic trauma or hernia
? Patients with chest trauma, multiple trauma or general burns, open thorax or open heart surgery
? Terminally ill patients with severe cachexia or less than 12 months of life expectancy
? Patients with chronic respiratory failure using a home ventilator
? Patients using an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO)
