Patients with advanced CKD (estimated glomerular filtration rate <30 ml/min for at least 3 months prior to inclusion) or family caregiver of a patient with advanced CKD” (living in the same household)

Exclusion Criteria

Inability to give informed consent

Primary Outcome Measures

- Documentation of clinical course and complications as well as time on therapy of new PD (and HD) patients<br>- Documentation of the reasons for choosing the treatment modality and the circumstances at the actual start of dialysis<br>- Documentation of quality of life of CKD patients starting PD (and HD) and their caregivers before, during, and after initiation of dialysis treatment using the Kidney Disease Quality of Life 36-Item Short Form Survey (KDQOL-36) or the Burden Scale for Family Caregivers (BSCF), respectively<br>- Establishment of a biomaterial bank (whole blood samples and peritoneal effluent) of patients new to PD (and HD)<br><br>Timepoints of data collection will be the initial presentation, beginning of dialysis, three, six, nine and twelve months after beginning of dialysis and anually thereafter. (For a detailed plan refer to the attached study protocol)
