Patients must meet at least five DSM-IV criteria (SKID II) for borderline personality disorder. The ability to consent of the subjects is a prerequisite for inclusion in the study. The subjects must be at least 18 years old. Patients with comorbidities such as Anxiety disorder, moderate depressive episode, bulimia nervosa, substance abuse, and other personality disorders may be included in the study as these comorbidities may also be found in a real clinical setting.
Exclusion criteria include a lifetime diagnosis of schizophrenia or bipolar affective disorder, acute suicidality, acute major depressive episode, suicide attempt within the last 12 months or severe self-harming behavior in the last 6 months, drug, drug or alcohol dependence over the last 6 months Body mass index (BMI) <16, mental retardation (IQ <80), organic brain disorders and poor German language skills.
