Men; Age between 50 and 80 years; Ankle-brachial index < 0.90 at rest in 1 or 2 legs; Patients with Fontaine stage II symptoms; Able to walk
for at least 2 min at 3.2 km/h on a treadmill; Not users of peripheral vasodilators, clopidogrel, beta blockers or
nondihydropyridine calcium channel blockers.
Presence of muscle or skeletal disorders that precludes exercise execution; systolic and/or diastolic, respectively, greater than 140 and 90 mmHg; obesity level II or greater; Presence of complex arrhythmias and/ or ischemia during exercise
